AUGUSTA MAKING HEADLINES

Each year, the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) holds a Conference to showcase the work and research being done by its members. The 2017 Conference was held in November in St. Petersburg, Florida. As an undergraduate student, I submitted three design pieces and one research poster for the 2017 juried competition. The number of Undergraduate submissions totaled 102 with a 37% acceptance rate. Two experimental/wearable art pieces, (Eternal Nature and Beauty in the Chaos) and my research poster (Eternal Perspective) were accepted for Exhibition.

Embrace Thermal Bra

During the 2016/2017 school year at Central Michigan University, I took part in a team tasked with designing a thermal bra for mastectomy patients. While working with business students and a materials specialist, I created the design for two prototype thermal bras. We pitched the idea for turning our bras into a business at the CMU New Venture Competition in March 2017, snagging 3rd place in the pitch competition. We are currently working to create a business entity to bring our bras to breast cancer survivors everywhere. We will launch our Kickstarter Campaign in October 2017.

Threads Fashion Show is an annual student-run event on Central Michigan University's campus. During the April 2017 Show, I showed two collections entitled Pacific Disturbance and Eternal Perspective. My Pacific Disturbance  won COLLECTION OF THE YEAR and has been accepted to show at Omaha Fashion Week in August 2017. My Eternal Perspective Collection has been accepted into the International Textile and Apparel Association's 2017 Proceedings, and will be presented as research in November.
